Katz's Delicatessen

Katz's Deli, serving since it was founded in 1888, is a legendary New York institution. It's famous for its pastrami (cured meat usually made from beef brisket) and corned beef sandwiches. Katz reaches that flavour by resting beef in a special cure for three weeks and then cooking it slowly for three days.

You should be prepared to queue for at least an hour. Your orders are marked on the ticket you're given at the door and paid on the way out.

With very simple decoration, Katz's is a New York classic, its walls hung with photographs of the famous. After a long wait you take your sandwiches to whichever shared table you can find free.
