Athens has become a favourite destination for Turkish travellers lately, and the interest has started to show up in both local and international press. There are plenty of options for eating and drinking in the city, and the cuisine feels quite familiar to us. Whether seafood, meat or meze, you can find options across very different budgets.

Papaioannou is a premium seafood restaurant with three locations in Athens and a branch on Mykonos. We chose the Vouliagmeni (Kavouri) branch, right on the water. Half an hour from central Athens and half an hour from Venizelos airport, it makes a lovely address for a meal before a flight.

The menu is seafood, but beyond classic Greek technique the fish comes as ceviche, tartare, carpaccio or smoked. Papaioannou offers a very high level of gastronomy, serving fish varieties and presentation techniques you won't find in many places.

In good weather the outside tables are especially pleasant, and everything we ate was very fresh and delicious. Prices are expensive by Athens standards, but normal for a restaurant of this quality.
