Lefteris o Politis, with roots going back to 1951, is one of Athens' most deeply rooted souvlaki shops. Founded by Lefteris Usta, a migrant from Istanbul, the shop is still run by family members.
This rough-and-ready place offers just two things: the classic meat souvlaki and one with sucuk. Your choice is served wrapped in a flatbread rather like tırnak pide. A portion is €2.70, with a range of drinks alongside.
You eat standing at high tables at Lefteris — a very good option for a quick but delicious bite in the popular Monastiraki area.
