Omakase means 'I leave the order to you' in Japan, but in America the name is used for restaurants where you sit at a sushi bar and have sushi prepared in front of you.
Tsumo Omakase on New York's Lower East Side, which we went to on a recommendation, is a good example. Sushi chefs prepare and present each of the thirteen pieces on the menu in front of you. The menu changes daily, but we had a high-level experience at Tsumo for freshness and flavour.
The meal runs about an hour, and you can add à la carte items if you'd like.
