Welcoming regulars since the 1980s, Balat Sahil Lokantası still manages to keep the spirit of old Istanbul alive.
One of the stars of the menu is the pastırma they cure themselves: intense in aroma, balanced in salt, one of the best examples of a classic. The other standout is the plain steamed fish, without vegetables — simplicity that makes the difference, putting the true taste of the fish first, and a regular's essential.
Alongside these come the daily meze, fresh seafood and those convivial tables set facing the Golden Horn. Nothing here is overdone, and everything is exactly as it should be.
