Kaya Döner

A small döner shop on Silahşör Caddesi in Bomonti: Kaya Döner. One of the best döners in Istanbul, we would say, and hardly anyone knows about it. The menu is plain — soup and döner. The plate comes with rice, chips, tomato and onion. Simple, and very good. Go at lunchtime and the size of the cone on the spit tells you everything about how popular it is.
In February 2026 Culinary Backstreets wrote it up under the title "Betting It All On Bomonti." A young couple opened it in the middle of the economic crisis, and its beef-and-lamb döner has made it one of the neighbourhood's new fixtures.
Everything is sold by weight. In bread it runs from 50 to 200 grams — lavaş, tombik, half a loaf or three-quarters, with a 100-gram minimum on the three-quarters and 150 on the whole loaf. A plate starts at 100 grams. Alongside: lentil soup, grated salad, their own reyhanlı ayran or a bottle of Özerhisar, and homemade rice pudding for afters. Open at eleven in the morning, closed at eight in the evening.
